A Full Moon Yoga Practice to Help You Manifest Abundance

Astrologically, July is a month with a powerful transition. We’re leaving Cancer season, where our emotions have been plentiful, and entering fiery Leo season, where confidence and boldness reigns. This year, the start of Leo season has aligned with a full moon in Aquarius on July 23. And this moon rises with a message: To accept ourselves where we are in this moment, and manifest abundance in all areas of our lives, including in our yoga practice.

Aquarius is an Air sign that is all about embracing your individuality, and its energy is calming, indecisive, and deeply introspective. Thus, with the full moon in Aquarius during the transition from Cancer to Leo season, we are shifting the way we think about ourselves. Leo season exudes confidence, while Aquarius is all about self-acceptance. What do you want to manifest to create abundance? What areas in your life seem to be lacking, and how can you change your scarcity mindset? The full moon in Aquarius is deeply rooted in changing your mindset from negative to positive and creating abundance in the self-love areas of your life—because you are amazing exactly as you are.

Likewise, full moons are the best time to manifest your aspirations by tapping into the energy of the moon and releasing what is no longer serving you. You may find that you are unsure of what is the best way to manifest, and that’s OK. The beautiful thing about manifesting abundance is that it is unique to each person. For yogis, a full moon yoga flow is an amazing way to harness this energy and open your heart to everything the universe has to offer.

Embrace abundance with this full moon yoga practice

This full moon yoga practice will encourage you to open your heart and receive the positive energy of the Aquarius full moon, so you can get to work manifesting abundance in all areas of your life. This flow is meant to be taken at your own pace. Spend as much time on each pose as you need.

Sukhasana (Easy Pose)

Contrary to the name of the pose, manifesting in Easy Pose is anything but easy. Sit here for a while and contemplate what areas of your life are lacking abundance, and tap into that full moon energy. Take as much time as you need to figure out the direction of your goals, aspirations, and what you want to manifest.

Practice it:

Grab a blanket and fold it to create a support about six inches high. Sit on the edge of the blanket and come into Dandasana (Staff Pose) with both legs in front of you. When you’re ready, cross your shins, widen your knees, and slip each foot beneath the opposite knee as you bend your knees and fold the legs in toward your torso. You’ll know you have the leg fold correct when you look down and see a triangle, its three sides formed by the two thighs and the crossed shins. Keep your pelvis in a neutral position, and rest your hands on your knees or in your lap, palms up or down—whatever feels good to you. Breathe. Depending on how long you sit, you might want to switch the crossing of your legs before moving on.

Having a strong spine is key to Locust Pose, and so is having a backbone when it comes to manifestation. The Full Moon in Aquarius reminds us to be driven to accept our quirks, as you do in Locust. Stay here for a few minutes if that comes naturally to you, and create that inner strength in your spine to help you manifest abundance.

Try it:

Lie on your belly with your arms along the sides of your torso, palms up, forehead resting on the floor (if this is uncomfortable for you, consider padding the floor below your pelvis and ribs with a blanket). Turn your big toes toward each other to inwardly rotate your thighs, and firm your buttocks. Exhale and lift your head, upper torso, arms, and legs away from the floor, so you’re resting on your lower ribs, belly, and front pelvis. Firm your buttocks and reach strongly through your legs, first through the heels to lengthen the back legs, then through the bases of the big toes, which should still be turned toward each other.

From here, raise your arms parallel to the floor and stretch back actively through your fingertips. Gaze forward or slightly upward, being careful to keep the base of the skull lifted and the back of the neck long. Breathe here for about a minute, and then release with an exhalation. Repeat if desired.

Salabhasana (Locust Pose)

Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)

Cobra pose is that backbend that encourages you to open your heart, which is key to manifesting. Through the backbend, the body is opened up to positive change, and you can embrace your wildest dreams. Aquarius energy is all about looking forward, and as you open your heart, you allow in abundance and prosperity.

Move into it:

While lying on your belly, stretch your legs back and press the tops of your feet and your thighs on the floor. Spread your hands on the floor under your shoulders. Hug the elbows back and into your body. On an inhalation, straighten the arms to lift the chest off the floor, going only to the height at which you can maintain a connection through your pubis to your legs. Lift the pubis toward the navel while simultaneously firming the buttocks. Lift through your sternum and look forward, being careful not to push the ribs forward. Breathe here for 30 seconds before releasing back to the floor on an exhalation. Repeat if desired.

Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose)

Boat Pose can be uncomfortable or difficult for some yogis—but so is manifesting. You have to do the work, and go through the necessary, albeit uncomfortable, changes to bring your desires to life. Boat Pose creates that strong core that inspires confidence, and will help you manifest through the full moon.

Practice it:

Sit upright and extend your legs in front of you. Inhale, bend your knees, place your feet on the floor, and hold behind your knees. Exhale, lean your upper body back, keeping your spine straight. Find a stable balancing point on your sit bones, then lift your feet off the floor, so that the thighs are angled about 45-50 degrees. If possible, slowly straighten your knees, raising the tips of your toes slightly above eye-level. If this isn’t possible, remain with your knees bent or lift the shins parallel to the floor. If it’s available to you, stretch your arms alongside the legs, parallel to each other and the floor. Otherwise, leave your palms on the floor beside your hips or hold the back of your legs. Breathe here for 30 seconds to one minute. Repeat if desired.

Yogi’s choice: Your Favorite Warrior Pose

All the Virabhadrasana (Warrior) poses help you inspire confidence, build core strength, and maintain balance. These elements are key to any manifestation practice, especially with the help of the loving Aquarius full moon. Pick your favorite Warrior pose and spend some time leaning into it, illuminating the strength and space needed to manifest abundance in all areas of your life.

Try it:

For Warrior I: Step your left foot back about 4–5 feet at a 45-degree angle. Keep your right foot pointed forward. Bend your right knee directly over your ankle. Keep your left leg straight, pressing weight into the outer edge of the foot. Your hips will face the front of the mat. Lift your arms overhead and gaze toward your hands. Breathe here for 30 seconds to one minute. Return to standing when done. Repeat on the other side.

For Warrior II: From Warrior I, open your left arm toward the back of the mat and drop your right arm so both are parallel to the floor. Stretch energetically through your fingertips and sink deeper into the bended leg, while keeping the sides of the torso long and the shoulders directly over the pelvis. Breathe here for 30 seconds to one minute. Return to standing when done. Repeat on the other side.

For Warrior III: From Warrior Pose I, stretch your arms forward, parallel to the floor and parallel to each other, palms facing each other. Shift your body weight forward onto your front foot as you straighten your front leg, while simultaneously lifting the back leg so that it’s parallel to the floor. If you can’t keep your arms lifted, use two blocks under your shoulders on the floor. Avoid hyperextending your standing leg by adding a gentle bend. Energize the back leg and extend it strongly toward the wall behind you; reach just as actively in the opposite direction with the arms. Bring the head up slightly and look forward, but be sure not to compress the back of your neck. Breathe here for 30 seconds to one minute. Return to standing when done. Repeat on the other side.

Savasana (Corpse Pose)

As you move into Savasana, rest comfortably, knowing you have created space for abundance to trickle into your life. You have opened your heart and are ready to manifest in the self-accepting energy of the Full Moon in Aquarius—closing one cycle and starting another.

Rest:

Sit on the floor with your knees bent, feet on the floor, and lean back onto your forearms. Move to the floor slowly, releasing both legs and resting your arms by your side, softening throughout your body. Relax. Stay in this posture as long as you like.
