As younger consumers shift away from alcohol, Brian Dobbins explores how evolving preferences around wellness and experience are reshaping social drinking, and how Dope Daiquiris fits the future.

Drinking was long regarded as the quintessentially “cool” activity, but a measurable shift has been underway in how younger consumers approach alcohol today. Recent surveys show that alcohol consumption among young adults has declined immensely, with only 50% reporting they drink, down from 71% two decades prior, reflecting a shift in lifestyle priorities. The rising wellness culture and mental clarity may now be guiding decision-making across millennials and Gen Z audiences. Within that context, a new category of beverages is emerging, one that aligns with how the generation wants to feel and connect.

“People still want to go out and have a good time,” says Brian Dobbins, founder of Dope Daiquiris. “They’re just more mindful about how they do it and how they feel afterward.” In his view, the ongoing cultural shift in drinking habits has unveiled a space for alternatives that preserve the ritual of social drinking while offering a different kind of sensory experience.

Dope Daiquiris enters that space with THC-infused, non-alcoholic, frozen beverages designed for enjoyment without the lingering aftereffects or arduous hangovers often associated with alcohol. Dobbins believes the product resonates with consumers who are seeking balance as well as the thrill of the experience.

“The very first thing we notice when people try it is their reaction to the taste. Their eyes light up because they didn’t expect it to be that good. Flavor draws them in, but the experience is what brings them back,” Dobbins says. With fruity flavors designed for easy use in slush machines and ready-to-drink packages, Dope Daiquiris underscores the importance of curating predictable experiences that elevate the product beyond one-time use. Dobbins sees this as a key aspect in establishing it as a dependable option that consumers can return to as their preferences evolve.

Ian Sheridan, Chief Sales Officer, says, “Evenings are still about unwinding, connecting, and enjoying the moment. This just gives people a way to do that while feeling clear and capable the next day.” The greater appeal, in his opinion, lies in the idea that consumers can retain the familiar cadence of drinking rituals without the drawbacks that have led many to step away from alcohol together.

It’s worth noting the company’s product design and its role in establishing that familiarity. Dobbins explains how the frozen texture of the drink is designed to bring about a slower effect, reinforcing the idea of savoring instead of rushing. “It’s a slow roll. You’re not taking a shot or trying to get somewhere fast. You’re enjoying it as it unfolds,” Dobbins says, noting how the larger idea is to align it with the cultural desire toward mindfulness and moderation.

“Different people want different experiences, and we’ve built around that. Some want something light and relaxed, others are looking for something stronger. It’s about meeting people where they are,” Sheridan explains.

The company’s adaptability also extends to how it functions. Dobbins explains that operating in a highly dynamic regulatory environment requires agility and long-term commitment, both facets Dope Daiquiris seeks to champion. “We’re here for the long run,” he states. “We’re going to continue to advocate for the people who want this and make sure it remains accessible as the landscape evolves.”

Scale is already part of that trajectory as the brand currently has a retail presence across 24 states, with additional reach through direct-to-consumer shipping in select markets. Expansion plans now focus on building strategic partnerships that enable consistent distribution while navigating shifting regulations.

“We want to bring our products everywhere we can confidently operate, and finding the right partners in the right markets is how we aim to get there,” Sheridan says. “If someone discovers us in one state, they should be able to find the same product and the same quality somewhere else.” In that context, consistency and brand reliability shape the crux of their larger ambition in a space that is still developing.

With younger audiences demonstrating a preference for options that support social connection and personal well-being, Dobbins believes that they are refining shared experiences. “There’s a real opportunity here to evolve with the customer,” Dobbins says. “We’re small enough to listen, to adapt, and to build alongside them.”

As expectations continue to shift and long-standing narratives begin to erode, the future of social drinking may be defined by flexibility and intentionality. Brands that understand those dynamics are more likely to lead the next phase of the beverage category. Dope Daiquiris represents one such response, designed for a generation that values how an experience feels just as much as how it begins.
