Locs of Glory is celebrating 17 years of serving the St. Louis community, marking a milestone for the Black-owned loc and beauty spa founded by Tameka Stigers in 2009. What began with a specialized focus on Sisterlocks has grown into a broader destination for loc care, natural hair services, beauty treatments, spa experiences, and products.
Locs of Glory describes its mission around healthy hair and quality self-care, offering services designed to support clients through different stages of their hair and wellness journeys.
“For me, 17 years represents the power of staying committed to a vision while remaining willing to evolve,” said Stigers. “I wanted to create a place where people could care for their crowns, slow down, feel seen, and leave with a renewed sense of themselves. That vision continues to guide every decision we make.”
The company’s origins are rooted in Stigers’ recognition of a growing need for specialized loc expertise in St. Louis. The U.S. Small Business Administration reports that Stigers brought Sisterlocks to the St. Louis market in 2009 and launched Locs of Glory from a 400-square-foot salon inside her home. As demand grew, she sought business guidance and financing resources before expanding into a larger facility.
That early experience helped shape the company’s approach to growth. Locs of Glory now operates from a 3,000-square-foot facility in St. Louis, where its service menu brings multiple aspects of personal care together under one roof. The company currently offers starter locs, retwists, instant locs, loc repairs, styling, restorations, Sisterlocks, and Microlocs. Its spa services include facials, massages, floating therapy, and other treatments, while its shop offers loc care products, hydration products, oils, tools, and apparel.
“Our clients have taught us that healthy hair is deeply connected to how people feel about themselves,” Stigers said. “That is why we have always looked beyond a single appointment. We want the experience to support the whole person and give clients a place where beauty, restoration, and self-care can exist together.”
The company’s specialization in Sisterlocks remains central to its identity. Locs of Glory states that Sisterlocks has been a featured service since 2008, and its loc specialists provide services including installations, retightening, interlocking, instant locs, extensions, repairs, and styling. The business also serves clients seeking traditional loc maintenance, natural hairstyles, and grooming.
Specialization and education are essential to creating lasting value in the beauty industry, according to Stigers. Her website now features a Beauty Management Firm coaching program designed to help aspiring women build beauty businesses with stronger structures, strategies, and financial foundations.
“Building a beauty business requires more than technical talent,” Stigers said. “It requires discipline, structure, vision, and the courage to keep learning. I want the knowledge gained through our journey to help other beauty professionals create businesses that can serve their communities and sustain their families.”
The anniversary comes as Locs of Glory continues to build around a team of beauty and wellness professionals. The company lists cosmetologists, natural hairstylists, loc specialists, braiders, barbers, nail professionals, massage therapists, and estheticians among its team, reflecting its commitment to bringing varied expertise together in one destination.
For Stigers, the next chapter is defined by continued service and purposeful growth. She views the company’s longevity as an opportunity to deepen its relationships with clients while creating opportunities for professionals entering the beauty industry.
“Seventeen years gives us perspective, but it also gives us responsibility,” Stigers said. “We have an obligation to honor the people who trusted us with their hair, their time, and their stories. The next 17 years will be about expanding that trust, strengthening our impact, and proving that a business built from purpose can become part of the fabric of a community.”
Through its combination of hair services, spa treatments, products, and professional development initiatives, Locs of Glory is carrying forward its founding vision while preparing for its next era with confidence and renewed purpose.
“We started with a belief that our community deserved exceptional care,” Stigers said. “Seventeen years later, that belief is stronger than ever. Our future is simple: care deeply, build boldly, and leave every person who enters our doors knowing their crown matters.”
