Carl Stecker is a visionary leader in the healthcare industry, with over three decades of experience in benefits and health insurance solutions. As the founder and CEO of FreeRx.com, he is reshaping the way people access essential medications and healthcare services. His mission is simple yet bold: to eliminate unnecessary costs, break down competitive gatekeeping and make healthcare accessible to everyone. Before launching FreeRx.com, Stecker currently serves as President and CEO at Benefits in a Card, a company committed to streamlining employee benefits. His firsthand experience navigating healthcare systems and benefits administration honed his insight into systemic inefficiencies—driving his unwavering mission to disrupt the status quo in healthcare.
In this interview, Stecker delves into the inspiration behind FreeRx.com, the challenges of disrupting an industry resistant to change, and his bold vision for the future of healthcare. He reveals why traditional insurance models are failing millions, how his platform is redefining accessibility, and what’s next for a company that refuses to accept the status quo.
What inspired you to create FreeRx.Com, and why now?
Carl Stecker: Even with the best health insurance money could buy, I still couldn’t afford a simple medication. That moment of frustration sparked the idea for FreeRx.com. Our healthcare system is broken—outdated, inefficient, and downright frustrating. Too many people are forced to navigate insurance systems that prioritize profits over people’s health.
That’s where we come in. Instead of relying on traditional health insurance, we provide coverage for a simple monthly fee. As we built this model, we developed a generic formulary of 800+ medications, available through a network of over 70,000 pharmacies—including CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart. Now, we’ve taken it even further, delivering medications straight to our members’ doorsteps.
FreeRx.com was born from the belief that we can—and must do better. The flaws in the system are screaming for an industry reinvention, and we’re answering that call. Our vision for the future of healthcare is simple: no waiting weeks for a doctor, no overpriced prescriptions, and no unnecessary barriers to care. People are demanding change, and we’re delivering it—fast.
How do you reconcile the aggressive growth model with maintaining quality and customer satisfaction?
Carl Stecker: Some mistake us for a discount card. We are not a discount card. FreeRx.com is a virtual pharmacy offering direct access to over 800 of the most prescribed medications—paired with virtual visits from board-certified physicians.
The formula is simple: affordability and accessibility. For $29.99 a month, members get urgent care, primary care, mental health support, and even dermatology through virtual appointments. No long wait times, no surprise costs—just reliable, convenient healthcare. And we’re just getting started.
How do you plan to handle regulatory challenges in the healthcare industry, especially with a disruptive product?
Carl Stecker: By cutting out the middleman, we eliminate unnecessary markups. Normally, a prescription changes hands up to eleven times before reaching a patient. Each time, the cost soars—retail pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens can inflate prices by up to 2,000%.
Our model eliminates those inefficiencies. We distribute medications directly from our fulfillment centers to our members, keeping prices low while ensuring fast and reliable access to essential prescriptions.

How do you reconcile the aggressive growth model with maintaining quality and customer satisfaction?
Carl Stecker: By keeping everything in-house. Our call center and business operations are under the same roof—we don’t outsource. That means full control over customer service and the ability to scale without sacrificing quality.
We’ve also hired three pharmacists to help develop 90% of the acute medications we offer in generic form today. That ensures consistency, reliability, and a level of care that exceeds expectations. Customer satisfaction comes down to two things: value and quality. With over 33 years of experience delivering both at Benefits in a Card, we’re confident in our ability to do the same at FreeRx.com.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as the CEO of FreeRx.com, and how did you overcome it?
Carl Stecker: The biggest challenge has been shaking up an industry that resists change. Healthcare has operated the same way for so long that people assume inefficiency and high costs are just part of the deal. Convincing them there’s a better way is an uphill battle.
But that challenge became our motivation. We knew we had a better model—one that actually puts people first. Instead of waiting for permission, we pushed forward, proved our value, and made it impossible to ignore. The more people we help, the clearer it becomes that we’re leading a real shift in healthcare.

What does success look like to you, both personally and for Freerx.com?
Carl Stecker: Success is about impact—changing healthcare for good. Personally, it means knowing that we’re helping millions of people access the care they need without the usual roadblocks.
For FreeRx.com, success means making affordable healthcare the norm—not the exception. It’s about eliminating inefficiencies, removing barriers, and forcing the industry to evolve. We’re not here for small changes—we’re here to redefine the system.
What advice would you give to fellow entrepreneurs looking to disrupt an industry or launch their own start-up?
Carl Stecker: Don’t wait for the perfect moment—it doesn’t exist. If you see a problem, solve it. Don’t wait for someone else to do it first.
The journey won’t be easy. You’ll face setbacks, but those are just part of the process. Stay relentless. Surround yourself with a team that shares your vision. And most importantly, take risks. If you’re not pushing boundaries, you’re playing it too safe.
What’s next for Freerx.com?
Carl Stecker: We’re just getting started. The next phase will be game-changing. We’re expanding our services, adding more healthcare options, and making the entire process even more seamless for our members.
The goal is clear: FreeRx.com will be the go-to health solution for millions. We’re moving fast, breaking barriers, and reshaping the industry. The future of healthcare isn’t coming—it’s already here. And we’re leading the way.
