We are thrilled to have you join us today! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh: I’m a facial plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, and my practice is focused on facelifts, rhinoplasty, facial reanimation, and non-invasive treatments. I’ve been in practice for the past 20 years, and we have been diligently focused on providing cutting-edge treatments, as well as developing novel and safe ways to address the aging process and other facial plastic surgical techniques.
My brand is unique because we are involved in developing novel techniques in a boutique way, where we provide hands-on, customized treatments. An important standard of my practice is safety. With facial plastic surgery, patients are often concerned about the safety of going through surgery.
With my deep understanding of facial anatomy and nerves, we can provide elegant, authentic, and beautiful results with the highest safety parameters. One upcoming product and service we are expanding is developing a healthcare technology platform to allow improved communication between patients and doctors in the aesthetic field.
Can you share a time when your business faced a significant challenge? How did you navigate through it?
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh: The COVID pandemic posed the biggest challenge for my business as we needed to balance the management of the shutdown, returning to work, patients who required our attention, and the financial well-being of my team.
Very early in the process, I decided to pay my entire team and quickly go remote, and within a few weeks, we formed a plastic surgery committee that determined how to safely return to work and perform surgery without undue risk to our patients and staff. Ironically, plastic surgery boomed in the coming months, and we have not slowed down since.
How has a failure or apparent failure set you up for later success?
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh: Plastic surgery is truly a combination of art and science combined with a human being’s unique healing process that is individualized and unpredictable. Additionally, each individual has expectations of outcomes, and each doctor’s ability to convey their capabilities is extremely complex.
As a result, there are times when there is a mismatch between the desired outcomes and actual results, leading to a less-than-satisfactory outcome. Although not common in my practice, I always use these circumstances to learn how to better myself in my patient communication and surgical approach. If you are not consistently seeking excellence, you cannot become and remain a great surgeon.
How do you build a resilient team? What qualities do you look for in your team members?
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh: Building a resilient team in the field of plastic surgery involves several key qualities in team members. I prioritize technical expertise and a commitment to staying updated with the latest surgical advancements and techniques, as precision and skill are paramount in our work.
