For more than 35 years, Dr. Deborah C. Bauers has dedicated her career to helping people navigate life’s most challenging moments. A Licensed Professional Counselor, educator, speaker, and author, Dr. Bauers has become a respected voice in marriage counseling and mental health by bringing together clinical expertise and biblical truth. That combination now drives a mission focused on equipping churches to better serve today’s families.

Her professional experience has spanned private practice, higher education, disaster response, and church ministry. From counseling individuals living with anxiety, trauma, and family challenges to supporting communities during crises, every chapter has reinforced a simple belief: faith and responsible mental health care work best together. “Responsible, Biblically grounded mental health practices have a vital place in the church, strengthening the effectiveness of counseling,” Dr. Bauers says.

That conviction has inspired the next phase of the journey. Today, Dr. Bauers is building a team of marriage and premarital mentors who receive training grounded in both Scripture and mental health principles. The vision is to help churches move beyond simply responding to problems by proactively strengthening relationships before they reach a breaking point.

“I’m building a team of Marriage and Premarital mentors who have both Biblically grounded and mental health-informed training,” Dr. Bauers explains. “Churches need this to meet the needs of today’s congregations. The church needs to provide answers for a world that is upside down.”

The mission reflects both professional expertise and personal experience. Alongside decades of counseling, Dr. Bauers has spent more than 50 years in marriage while serving as a pastor’s wife, mentor, and grandmother. Those experiences have reinforced the belief that healthy marriages create stronger families, healthier churches, and more resilient communities.

That philosophy is at the heart of Marriage on Purpose, co-authored with Jane Daly. More than a traditional marriage book, it offers a practical framework for Christian couples built on biblical principles, intentional communication, and shared commitment. The book also serves as the foundation for Dr. Bauers’ Marriage Mentor Ministry, equipping churches with practical tools to train mentors and guide couples toward lasting, Christ-centered relationships.

Rather than focusing solely on resolving conflict, the book encourages couples to strengthen emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical intimacy while learning to face challenges as a team. Dr. Bauers’ model is trauma-informed and focuses on a mentor training that helps couples recognize triggers and learn how to provide mutual emotional safety. The result is a resource that supports both individual marriages and church-based mentoring ministries.

At a time when many churches are seeking meaningful ways to care for growing emotional and relational needs, Dr. Bauers believes the answer lies in combining sound mental health practices with unwavering Biblical truth. Through counseling, writing, and mentor training, the goal remains the same: helping churches become places where spiritual healing, wisdom, and lasting relationships flourish. By investing in leaders, mentors, and couples alike, Dr. Deborah C. Bauers continues to demonstrate that stronger marriages begin with intentional discipleship, practical guidance, and a church prepared to meet the realities of today’s world with both compassion and conviction.
