You are now the CEO of Earth’s Own Essentials, offering a wide range of natural products. What motivated you to start this journey?

Andrea Bailey-Tweed: It started with the battle for my own health that I thought I was losing to allopathic medications.

The medications I was on were making me ill, everything was standard operating procedure. My husband and I were afraid I wasn’t going to ever be the same. I had suffered for many years, and nothing changed. Doctors were giving up on me.

One even suggested admitting me to a long-term care facility, suggesting I wouldn’t get any better. I had one of two choices, succumb to my condition(s), or fight like heck to prove them wrong.

I chose the latter. I remembered my grandmother’s love for herbs and oils and how when I would get sick, she would send me some of her formulations and I would quickly get better. I went to Aromatherapy School and studied hundreds of hours to become a Certified Aromatherapist. I created a formulation for myself. With in months, I was on my way to recovery.

As I improved, I made a promise to God to share my oils and blends with others and to help support as many as I could in their wellness journey.

My company was born out of a desperate need to save myself. Once the oils proved critical in my recovery, I wanted to share my news and blessings with the world. In an effort to ensure the oils are high quality, I began selling my own, offering personalized support, and sharing what I have learned.

I decided I wanted to share what I learned and experienced with people who are suffering similar, or other health conditions and are looking for alternatives to pills.

Your goal is to increase people’s knowledge and awareness about the safe usage of essential oils. What is your approach to education? What do you believe is necessary for comprehensive education around alternative healthcare?

Andrea Bailey-Tweed: Although essential oil methodology is not complicated, it is important to lay the groundwork for a working knowledge about essential oils, extraction methods, and precautions.

Then, people can have a better understanding of the value of the oil and proper ways to use it. I like to speak publicly, conduct in person training where there’s small group learning, and I want to begin doing online training. For my personal clients, I provide ongoing information, data sheets for their blends, etc.

I let them know what the blend is created for, but also other benefits they are likely to experience because of the many therapeutic properties in each oil. I also produce a monthly newsletter and post essential oil information on social media through Earth’s Own Essentials.

Through your education, how do you hope to empower people to take control of their wellness?

Andrea Bailey-Tweed: Knowledge is Power! When people are provided with information, they can use it to make better informed decisions. Basic wellness is easy.

There are easy ways to protect against cold, flus and viruses. Easy ways to use oils for skincare, for emotional well-being and the like. Social media is a powerful platform when used correctly but when used improperly, it can be terrifying.

The information I obtain through continuing education and training,I turn into simple ways to reach people with fact-based information, in short, easy to read posts. Sometimes I provide formulations, sometimes ways to understand the chemical and therapeutic make up of an oil, and how it supports our well-being.

Explain how a particular blend or essential oil has a positive impact on someone’s physical, mental, or emotional health?

Andrea Bailey-Tweed: All essential oils possess therapeutic components and chemical constituents that work through your bloodstream to impact all areas in your body. You may take an oil/blend for digestive concerns and find your mood has elevated, or you’re no longer fatigued, you’re sleeping better, etc.

And when oils are blended, you can create a synergy that promotes wellness throughout your entire body. Long before modern humans developed the ability to make medicines by using chemical synthesis, our ancestors turned to the natural world to find ways of treating a wide range of ailments.

Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils is one of those modalities that have been used for millennia across all cultures, particularly in Egypt. The information has passed through time in oral and written form and is now available online.

In many countries essential oils qualify as prescription medicines.

Essential oil research and clinical studies are being conducted regularly with many describing remarkable healing properties of these oils and showing positive effects for a variety of health concerns including pain, infections, depression, tumors, PMS, nausea, skin concerns, and more.

Safe usage is also incredibly important. There is a lot of misinformation about how essential oils can be used or applied. For example, direct ingestion without a solubilizer can be very dangerous, causing liver or kidney damage, or problems to your digestive system.

Using oils directly on the skin without a carrier oil can also cause serious problems, so I always advocate for consulting a professional and researching safest, best practices.

What personal wellness strategies and techniques do you use to ensure optimal wellness? What are your favorite ways to show self-care?

Andrea Bailey-Tweed: My favorite thing to do is “Forest Bathing”. I wish I could say I coined the term, but I didn’t. Walking through the woods is so sensually satisfying. Immediately the oil factory kicks into high gear and sends calming vibes to the brain. The air is fresh, and the natural stimuli immediately transport you into a state of calm.

I use essential oils and essential oil blends on the daily. Sometimes I use single oils, lots of times, just based on how I feel, I will choose oils to enhance, encourage, stimulate, and balance and diffuse them. And to maintain my body health, I get regular massages and go to the gym.
